Invoices in Morocco: mandatory information and best practices

Invoices in Morocco: mandatory information and best practices

An incomplete invoice can be rejected by your customer, delay your payment or cause problems during an audit. Here are the elements to check and the best practices for flawless invoices.

This article is a practical checklist. Tax regulations change: always check the current requirements with your accountant or the General Tax Directorate (DGI).

Information about your company

  • Company name (or name), legal form and address.
  • Common Company Identifier (ICE).
  • Tax identifier (IF), trade register number (RC) and, where applicable, business tax and CNSS numbers.
  • Contact details: phone, email.

Information about your customer

  • Name or company name and address.
  • The customer’s ICE when the customer is a business.

Information about the invoice itself

  • A unique, sequential number, with no gaps in the sequence.
  • The invoice date.
  • A precise description of the goods or services, quantities and unit prices excluding tax.
  • Any discounts.
  • The total excluding tax, the VAT rate and amount, and the total including tax.
  • Payment terms and method.

Best practices

Flawless numbering

Never delete an issued invoice: correct it with a credit note. A continuous sequence is a sign of seriousness and compliance.

The amount in words

Very common in Morocco, it limits disputes and forgery. Good software writes it automatically.

Linked documents

Quote, purchase order, delivery note and invoice should reference one another. In the event of a dispute, you find the full history in seconds.

Payment tracking

An invoice is only finished when it is paid. Track partial payments, due dates and reminders.

Which tool should you use?

For a freelancer or very small business, a simple online tool is enough: FacturePro generates a compliant invoice for free in two minutes, and DevisPro does the same for your quotes. As soon as you manage stock, orders and payments, an ERP like Dolibarr automatically chains quote, order, delivery, invoice and payment.

Frequently asked questions

Can an invoice that has already been sent be modified?

It is better to issue a credit note and then a new invoice, to keep continuous numbering and a clear audit trail.

Is the customer’s ICE mandatory?

For a business customer, the ICE is expected on invoices. Individuals don’t have one.

Is a PDF invoice sent by email valid?

E-invoicing rules are evolving; check the regulations in force with your accountant.
